Requirements

Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements before troubleshooting.

  • macOS 13.0 Ventura or later
  • Apple Silicon or Intel Mac
  • Finder extension enabled in System Settings
  • ShortClick permissions only if you use those features

Permissions, and where to grant them

The Finder extension is the only thing PowerClick needs to do its core job. The three permissions below belong to optional ShortClick features, are off until you enable them, and can be revoked at any time. Full details are in the privacy policy.

Finder Extensions

System Settings > Privacy & Security > Extensions > Finder Extensions. Required for the right-click menu. The menu bar icon turns green once it is active.

Input Monitoring

System Settings > Privacy & Security > Input Monitoring. Only for the Command plus Shift plus right-click trigger. The keyboard shortcut works without it.

Accessibility

System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. Only for window snapping, to move and resize the frontmost window.

FAQ

The PowerClick option doesn't appear in Finder's right-click menu.

The Finder extension needs to be manually enabled. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security > Extensions > Finder Extensions, and make sure PowerClick is checked. If it's not listed, try quitting and relaunching PowerClick from the menubar, then check again.

The extension shows as inactive (orange dot) in the menubar.

Use the "Refresh Status" option in the menubar popover. If it stays orange, go to System Settings and verify the extension is enabled. Sometimes macOS disables extensions after an update, and re-enabling it there fixes it.

New File from Clipboard is not showing up.

This option only appears when your clipboard contains text. If you have an image, file, or empty clipboard, the option is hidden. Copy some text first, then right-click in an empty area of a Finder window.

My clipboard history is not being tracked.

Open PowerClick's Dashboard, go to Settings, and check that the clipboard watcher is turned on. Also confirm you haven't set the history limit to 0. If you're copying passwords, those are intentionally skipped when "Ignore Passwords" is enabled.

A file I created doesn't open automatically.

Auto-open is an opt-in setting. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Finder and enable "Auto-open After Create". The file will open in its default application after creation.

How do I reset everything back to defaults?

Open Dashboard, go to Settings > About, and use the "Reset All Data" button. This clears all snippets, clipboard history, activity log, and preferences. The action cannot be undone.

Does PowerClick work on Intel Macs?

Yes. PowerClick is a Universal Binary and runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

The ShortClick ring does not open when I press my shortcut.

First check that ShortClick is enabled in Dashboard > Settings > ShortClick, and that your recorded shortcut is not already taken by another app or by macOS. If only the Command + Shift + right-click trigger is failing, that one needs Input Monitoring: enable PowerClick in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Input Monitoring. macOS only applies a new Input Monitoring grant to a trigger created after the grant, so quit PowerClick from the menu bar and reopen it once. The keyboard shortcut itself needs no permission.

Window snapping does nothing, even though Accessibility is enabled.

Turn on Window snapping in Dashboard > Settings > ShortClick first, since the Windows category does not appear in the ring until you do. Then enable PowerClick in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. If it is already listed and still not working, remove PowerClick with the minus button, add it again, and relaunch. Snapping always acts on the frontmost window, so it will never move the PowerClick window itself.

Auto-paste copies the snippet but does not paste it.

Auto-paste asks System Events to send Command + V for you, which needs Automation access. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation, find PowerClick, and enable System Events. If you declined the prompt earlier, that is where you turn it back on. Without the permission the snippet is still copied, so you can paste it yourself.

My Shortcuts do not appear in the automation list.

PowerClick reads shortcut names from Shortcuts Events, which needs Automation access. In System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation, find PowerClick and enable Shortcuts Events. Shortcuts that live only on another device and have not synced to this Mac will not be listed.

How do I switch PowerClick to Light mode?

Open the Dashboard and go to Settings > Appearance, then choose Light, Dark or Auto. Auto follows your macOS setting, including the automatic switch at sunset. The same pane holds the Liquid Glass Clear or Tinted choice and nine theme colours. This changes PowerClick only, never your system appearance.
